A whole week to go and then we are gone again. Yoiks. Off to Lugano for the new home search part 2. I hope the sequal is better than he first. This time we are driving and on the way back swinging by graz to attend Kingdom university. This of course required new garb which I spent today doing, thus putting off the scrolls I need to get done in time for University which include some peerage type things that take time. Which means this time around I will be sitting in the hotel during our not looking at flats painting, always a pleasant past time.
The new garb was fun, 10 meters of black raw silk and some funky messing around with a non pattern patern later and I have a dress that matches marcus's court garb in a subtle way. The Queen has requested that all attending the grand ball wear drachenwald colours and since I don't do red or yellow all that well, it had to be black, with red velvet cuffs and collar inlay with antique, gold trim salvaged from a flea marekt, the head peice is matched with the same trim and a delicate almost not there golden organza veil. Even managed a matching belt after two needles and some severe cussing later. The non pattern patern is form the Dorothea Hartley book which I finally tracked down a real copy of and bought Yay me, and it's that very full circle dress, that all the Shire with the unspeakable name girls had a few years back, okay many years back. We used to call it the Ar-N'eilean-ne dress. Or the Hartley dress. I figured out today for the umpteenth time ( not the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes) that the fabric I buy today is way wider than the fabric she's talking about inn her widths and more widths, ( well rather lengths and more lengths.... she never actually meantions how wide the fabric is just how long..... The no pattern pattern has pitfalls but once you get it, it's a stunningly simple thing and very elegant. especially in black raw silk.
mental note to self...sewing metal is bad for needles.
am looking forward to next year actually, time for me again time to sit down and wade throughthe billions of art projects and garb projects I have on hold, laundry and house work will not compete for art's and crafts time because there will beno 9 hour work day in between to get things all busy.
Of course the next two months are about throwing out and sorting out and oh my god where did the time go ack we have a month etc.... moving is such a thing, it sucks but it's great for getting rid of the junk you just don't know what to do with.
Inbetween all the back and to and fro of life ther eis work which has become a mad house right now, a lot of "not my job" and "I have to do all the work" going on there, dunno it's a strange thing. Just do the work, it's cool. I kno I am leaving so it's a lot like water on a duck, but some of the statements being made are so deeply martyr complex, you have to wornder why people do anything if they are the only one who ever work and do it all then I have to wonder what the rest of us do all day, dunno ? Pick our noses and eat jelly beans I suppose. Biding my time, doing my time, working over time and gettingthe work done and you know what? most of the time it's fun I will miss the work and most f the folks there, I will miss the new toys and the junk, lunches with the boys and the rubber band wars. I will most definately not miss the whinging about too much to do and no one doing any work and the whinging about the cold, or the heat or the heaters or the radio or the mess ( clean it up??) or or or. Too many compaints nad not enough solutions. Ladies stop bitching and just get it done. many hands make the work go away faster. Or let me do it I can always use the over time anyway. So that's my work rant. My moving rant hasn't had time to get started yet and my holy cow I have no time to get all this stuff done rant is simmering :)
Lots to do and it's making the time zipideedoodah by.
still time to snuggle with the man though, watch sex and the city and cook mean chili.
until then, be excellent to each other.

clocks ticking, I seem to hear this in my head now almost all the time, the constant tick tick tick of time slowly slipping away while the deadline for the move draws closer and closer. The first week in january is now the set date, when strangers will come into the house and pack everything up in boxes, or dismantel as the case may be and carry it all downstairs into a waiting truck and ship it off to another country. I know this process but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with. Marcus will end up doing much of the sort and chuck work as he has almost a month's holiday still due and I am out of paid holiday now. So while I am at work swapping modems he will be sorting out and piling stuff. Ithelps to have the actually move date, we can plan around that now. We know we have two more SCA events coming uypi and then for the SCA travel that's it so we can pack all the SCA stuff away. And that will help alot. It is also a question of sorting out papers and all the weird bits of junk one collects and it's easy to do when one has the space and the time.
It's stressful, this moving process but what makes it harder is we do too much, in the last few weeks were were both hardly ever at home, and in two weeks we will be doing the same thing off again to Lugano on the search for a home part 2. This time I hope we are better prepared for what is coming and hopefully the lifestyle management person will actually show us something that's worth while and the crap that she showed us before.
To day is crown tourney so soon I will get to know who I will be working with for the next reign, but somehow I am not terribly excited about it, I have other worries I guess and they are more pressing. Like learning Italian, and sorting through four years worth of junk, no easy task let me tell you.
but still there is light at the end of the tunnel, and in the end the move will happen anyway sorted or otherwise. I just hope we can deal with our fishies so that they live. That would be a nice thing.
okay well back to the sort out tidy uyp process and I will see you all later.
until then be excellent to each other!

So, after having a few days to digest the whole search for a new place to live trip which was not all that successful, and talking about it with marcus a lot i figure out why I am unimpressed with the whole company moves employee to place X. You jvae to remember I have not done this before, all my moves were private for me with either family or just me. So there was no "hand of god" involved, no rules no money caps ( except my own personal one) and all apartment / house searches were done through me.
So imagine my annoyance when I take my last 4 holiday days to go to Lugano and surrounding area to be shown flats by the realestate aganet who is working for the company and on the very last day for 3 measly hours we get shown exactly the sort of places we expressly told this company we don't want to see.
downtown, in shabby high rises, with no view no light and mostly either no space, no real kitchen or no storage and no parking. Only one place was beautiful; but it was the worst location right next to a building lot where ( maybe) they woudl make a parking lot ( do I trust this? no way) and a busy busy street. so that means in the summer you can't have your windows open if you want quiet and car exhaust free. My shock doubled with the statement that laundry is not permitted in apartments you get a designated laundry day rto use the machines in the basement and that's that! ack.
3 hours, 4 flats and a waste of my precious holiday time. It rained the whole time we were down there and on the whole my impression of this new place tolive is of concrete boxes and damp air.
that's the down side.
the up side is that people there smile and say hullo ( okay they say Bonjourno and so on freely and of their own will, they smile a lot and are openly newfoundland like friendly. Gosh friendly and warm what's up with that? A welcome change we noticed instantly after arriving back in Ahrensburg to be shoved and jostled and snarled at by the local inhabitants.
When the sun shines down there is it stunning mist plays with the hills and the mountains and the lighting is incredible. Art is everywhere not eveything is as expensive as most people make it out to be. Italian will be fun to learn and maybe I can get my french back up to speed.
so far the bad and the good are on even footing, I suspect that once the hard part is over the flat is found and the move is done I will love it there.
I guess we will discover more next month.
in the meantime it's work and work and wrk, sort sort sort and get the scrolls done!
next event university
after that ours and that's it for us for a while.
love to you all missing my family greatly
fighting for flights home to Canada not ireland

so here I sit in the Tresa Bay hotel, looking out over Ponte Tressa lake I can see the Italian Swiss border crossing ( 2 minutes walk away) and it's still and calm out, gonna rain later on. The water is like glass and everything is shrouded in this filmy veil like mist. It's a strangething I seem to spend half my life in hotel rooms or at sca events these days and I don't know what home is any more, but I do know that I felt a great sense of joy and happiness at being told I get 10 hours of free internet because the hotel is beta testing a wireless system and all I could think of was yay contact with the outside world, except it isn't an outside world it's a virtual world, but all my friends and family are somehow there and itr connects me when I feel the most disconnected. Spoilt is internet connection in a hotel room when you feel like you ae light years away from home in a place that is stunning ( Naboo is actually somewhere near here, I think Como which is not far from here, ( star wars trivia). It's a beautiful place, Italian is the main language although most people speak some german as in Switzerland German is the official language, italian and french follow ( so Marcus says). But it's weird, I feel strangely dissocnnected here. Like I am once again lost in a wolrd of words I don't understand in a time I am not familiar with, like an alternate universe that looks the same but is slightly off kilter. It makes me more deturmined to learn Italian and be able to speak and understand the local everything. And not be lost once more to a sea of words and a stream of language I can't quite decipher but somehow feel I should...like remembering something half forgotten, it lies on the tip of your tongue but is never quite right, elusive and slippery until you can see the whole image. In the end this will be home soon, and I need to get used to it somehow but it gets harder and harder to define what home is really, places are now just places that I know and have been or have lived and home is just where I am at the time , be it hotel room, medieval pavillion or house. still will probably get out and explore a lot today and tomorrow, friday we look at apartments. I need to relax and take the down time as just that down time. Brought books to read and have entertainment in the form of notebooks with dvd player and sound system and my own mini geek to write on, there is a view to kill for and places to explore. I am spoilt, one minute in switzerland the next in italy, and at the moment it's not raining.
how spoilt is that?
until then, be excellent to each other.
